NFL Pick #2 10-25-2009

My second of two NFL picks for 10-25-2009 is:
Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys – 4:15pm ET
1* on #434 Dallas Cowboys -4 (-115)
The Falcons are coming off a gift-wrapped home win on Sunday night against the Bears. I say “gift-wrapped” because the Bears turned it over several times, including a Matt Forte fumble at the 1-yard line. Before that, Atlanta spanked the 49ers the week before that. On the flip side, Dallas is coming off their bye week and they’ve had two weeks to straighten themselves out. Everyone’s memory of Dallas is of the Cowboys needing OT to beat a lowly Chiefs team before the bye. They played about as sloppy a game as a team can play. I expect much better coming off the bye at home and they get the Falcons at just the right time.

NFL Football Pick #1 10-25-2009

My first of two NFL football picks for 10-25-2009 is:
San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans – 1:00pm ET
3* NFL Game of the Month on #425 49ers +3.5 (-125)
Houston is coming off a nice road win at then 4-1 Cincinnati. The 49ers are coming off their bye week. They had two weeks to prepare for this matchup, but they also had two weeks to think about their last performace — a pathetic 45-10 ass-whooping at home against Atlanta. You know a showing like that did not sit well with 49ers head coach Mike Singletary. That is completely unacceptable to Singletary and I’m sure he spent the last two weeks making damn sure his team comes out of the bye week with a fury. The 49ers also welcome back star RB Frank Gore, who should have room to operate against the Houston front seven. The Texans have allowed TEN rushing TDs already this season. They’ve also allowed 4.9 yards per carry. The Texans definitely have the better passing offense, but the 49ers will control this contest with their running game and sound defense. I bought the hook to +3.5 as insurance because you just never know, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 49ers win outright.

College Football Pick #3 10-24-2009

My last of three college football picks for 10-24-2009 is also my biggest. It is:
Oregon State at USC – 8:00pm ET on ABC
3* PAC-10 Game of the Month on #398 USC -20.5
Calling this a revenge game for USC would be a HUGE understatement. This is one of those “circle the calendar” games, meaning the Trojans have had their eyes squarely on this game since the schedule came out. The Beavers handed USC their only loss last season; a loss that cost Pete Carroll’s crew a shot at the BCS Championship. I could go on and on about USC’s edges in practically every area and position, but suffice it to say that the Trojans have the superior athletes all over the field. Sprinkle in a GINORMOUS revenge motive and stir that with the fact that this game is a nationally-televised night game, and we have the recipe for a good old-fashioned ass whooping. USC can name the score in this one, and given the circumstances, I’d say USC wins this game by 35.
