NBA Playoff Pick 5-27-10

My NBA playoff pick for Thursday 5-27-10 is:
Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Lakers – 9:00 p.m. ET

Bet #520 Los Angeles Lakers -7.5
The Lakers find themselves in a war after losing both games in Phoenix. With the series tied at two games each, I expect the Lakers to take back control of this series tonight at the Staples Center. These two have squared off four times in LA this season (2 regular season games & 2 in this series). The Lakers have won (and covered) all four of those meetings with the final margins of 19, 20, 21, and 12 points. The change in venue makes all the difference when these two lock horns. And the Lakers are very good at bouncing back from consecutive losses. Including the playoffs, the Lakers are a perfect 6-0 ATS this season when coming off back-to-back losses. Lay the points with the Lakers.

My NBA playoff pick for 5-25-10 is:
Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns – 9:00 p.m. ET

Bet #515 Los Angeles Lakers -1.5
We cashed with the Suns in Game 3, but we’re backing the Lakers tonight. Like I said in my Suns write-up, this series is eerily similar to how things went when these teams met in the regular season. Consider this:
Regular Season Game 1 in LA: Lakers roll by 19. Playoffs Game 1 in LA: Lakers roll by 21.
Regular Season Game 2 in LA: Lakers roll by 20. Playoffs Game 2 in LA: Lakers roll by 12.
Regular Season Game 3 in Phoenix: Suns win 118-103. Playoffs Game 3 in Phoenix: Suns win 118-109.
Regular Season Game 4 in Phoenix: Lakers win by 6. Playoffs Game 4 in Phoenix: ???
I love finding patterns in teams’ play. I’ve made a lot of money this way and there’s a definite pattern here. The Lakers have had time to watch film of their Game 3 loss and I fully expect Phil Jackson to have a game plan in place to thwart the Suns’ zone defense. LA takes back control of this series. Take the Lakers.

NBA Playoff Pick 5-23-10

My NBA playoff pick for 5-23-10 is:
Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns – 8:30 p.m. ET

Bet #512 Phoenix Suns -1.5
Everyone saw Boston hammer Orlando last night to take a 3-0 series lead in the Eastern Finals, so many expect the Lakers to do the same tonight. But I expect the Suns to climb back into this series with a win tonight. Including the playoffs, Phoenix is 36-10 at home this season and the home team is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings. While not exactly the same situation, this does remind me of the regular season. These teams met twice in LA (once in November & December) with the Lakers winning both games by 19 & 20 points. The third season meeting was in Phoenix in late December and the Suns avenged the two road losses to LA by thumping them, 118-103. Being at home clearly makes all the difference to the Suns and I think they claw their way back into this series tonight. Take Phoenix.

NBA Playoff Pick 5-18-10
May 18, 2010 by Dwayne Bryant · Leave a Comment
My NBA playoff pick for 5-18-10 is:
Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic – 8:35 p.m. ET

Bet #505 Boston Celtics +7
The Celtics are simply “in the zone” right now. They finished off King James and the Cavs with three straight wins and they stunned Orlando in Game 1 of this series. Boston has allowed no more than 88 points on this four-game win streak while allowing 40.4% shooting in the four games combined. The Celtics are playing top-notch defense and I always like backing a solid defense in the NBA simply because shooting comes and goes.
The betting public will be all over Orlando tonight with the thinking that they must win this game. And while the Magic very well could win tonight, they’ll need to get a bit of a margin to cost us this play. Considering how well Boston is playing right now, I don’t see the Magic being able to pull away tonight. The C’s have that championship look and I don’t expect any let up by them tonight. Take Boston.

NBA Playoff Pick 5-13-10
May 13, 2010 by Dwayne Bryant · Leave a Comment
My NBA playoff pick for 5-13-10 is:
Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics – 8:05 p.m. ET

Bet #741 Cleveland Cavaliers +1.5
We backed the Cavs in Game 3 when they blew out the Celtics, 124-95, in Boston. If you recall, that game came on the heels of Boston’s 18-point Game 2 win in Cleveland. This is what I said in my Game 3 write-up:
“Some teams just step up after a loss. Cleveland is one of those teams. If you throw out the last few games of the regular season (when the Cavs already had the #1 seed locked up), Cleveland only lost back-to-back games THREE times all season, including the playoffs. And one of those three instances occured in the first two games of the season. Suffice it to say that Cleveland knows how to bounce back from defeat.”
They’ve now lost back-to-back games to Boston, which marks just the fourth time all season (including playoffs) that the Cavs have dropped two straight games. The Cavaliers are 24-7 ATS in their last 31 games following a loss of more than 10 points, and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a double-digit loss at home. In other words, Cleveland bounces back VERY WELL from embarrassing losses. On the flip side, the Celtics are 8-21-1 ATS in their last 30 games following a win of more than 10 points.
Bottom line: The Cavs are off back-to-back losses and now face elimination. They have a proven track record of bouncing back from embarrassing blowout losses, while Boston has a proven track record of playing below their talent level when coming off a lopsided win. The Celtics have won two of the three games in Cleveland in this series, so I don’t expect them to come out playing like they MUST win tonight because they now know they can win in Cleveland. But the Cavs MUST win or their season will be over. I expect yet another solid bounce back from the Cavaliers, as they fight to keep their title hopes alive. Take Cleveland.
